Create a website favicon from one image
Add one JPG, PNG, or WebP. Choose how it sits in the square, then download the icon files. The image is not uploaded.
The Apple touch icon stays opaque. When the background is transparent, that one file uses white so a home screen does not turn the empty area black.
icon-192.png and icon-512.png are in the ZIP for a web manifest you write. This package does not include a manifest, and the icons are not marked maskable.
Download allHow to create the favicon
Add one image, or drop it on the page. Fill the square is already selected. It keeps the center and crops away the rest. Fit the whole image keeps every edge and leaves empty space around it. The background can be transparent, white, black, or a custom color. Press Create favicon package, then Download all. The file is pixzeno-favicon.zip. A later image replaces this one.
One image at a time, up to 25 MB, and neither edge over 12,000 pixels. GIF, HEIC, and SVG are refused, and so is any other type that is not JPG, PNG, or WebP. An animated WebP is accepted as a still image. The animation is not kept. A JPEG renamed to .png is still read as JPEG. A text file renamed to .jpg is refused.
What the package contains
The ZIP has seven files. favicon.ico is an ICO container with PNG images at 16, 32, and 48. It is not a PNG renamed to .ico. Beside it are favicon-16x16.png, favicon-32x32.png, favicon-48x48.png, and apple-touch-icon.png at 180×180. icon-192.png and icon-512.png are there for a web manifest you write yourself. The ZIP has no manifest, those two icons are not labeled maskable, and no SVG is generated.
The HTML box lists link tags for favicon.ico, the three PNG favicons, and the Apple icon. Those paths start at the site root. icon-192.png and icon-512.png are in the ZIP and are not in that snippet. Copy HTML puts the same text on the clipboard.
Fill the square, or keep the whole image
Fill uses the largest square that fits in the center. On a wide picture the left and right are left out. On a tall picture the top and bottom are left out. Fit scales the whole picture inside the square, and the empty bars use the background you chose. There is no pan control and no zoom control. The same choice is used for every size. To choose the square by hand, crop the image first.
Transparency, and the Apple file
Transparent is the default. That transparency is kept in the PNG favicons and in the PNG images inside favicon.ico. apple-touch-icon.png stays opaque: white when the background is transparent, otherwise the color you pick. It is a square 180×180 PNG, and this tool does not round the corners. A JPEG has no transparency of its own. Camera details and location from the source are not copied into the icons.
Icon size is not the source size
Every downloaded icon is square: 16, 32, 48, 180, 192, and 512 pixels. A browser tab does not have one universal display size. If the longer side of your image is under 512 pixels, the page says the larger icons are enlarged copies and that detail is not added. If the longer side is over 1,024 pixels, the icons are drawn from a working copy at that size. The files you download are still the exact icon sizes. The enlarged 16 preview is the generated 16 pixel file, shown large with hard pixels.
Using the files on a site
Browsers may request /favicon.ico from the site root on their own. You can also point at an icon with a link rel=icon tag, which is what the copied HTML does. The root is not the only valid place: edit the paths if the files live somewhere else. A browser can keep the previous icon, so a new one may not show until that cache is refreshed. These are website icons. They are not an App Store or Play Store set, and this page is not a general image converter.
Questions
What is a favicon?
It is the small icon a browser can show for a site, often in a tab or a bookmark. This page makes the icon files from one image. It does not design a logo.
How do I make a favicon from an image?
Add a JPG, PNG, or WebP, choose Fill the square or Fit the whole image, then press Create favicon package and Download all. You get one ZIP.
What size should a favicon be?
This package uses 16, 32, and 48 pixels inside favicon.ico and as separate PNG files, 180 pixels for the Apple touch icon, and 192 and 512 pixels for a manifest you write. A tab does not use only one of those sizes.
Does favicon.ico contain several sizes?
Yes. This file is an ICO container with three PNG images, at 16, 32, and 48 pixels. It is not a PNG renamed to .ico.
Can a favicon have transparency?
Yes in the PNG favicons and inside favicon.ico, when the background is transparent. The Apple file stays opaque. A JPEG source has no transparency to keep.
Should the source image be square?
It does not have to be. Fill crops the center to a square. Fit keeps the whole image and pads the rest. There is no control here to slide that crop.
Where do I put favicon.ico?
The copied HTML uses root paths such as /favicon.ico. Browsers may also request that path on their own. If your files are not in the root, change the paths in the snippet.
Why is my new favicon not showing?
The browser may still be showing the previous icon. Refreshing the cache is separate from creating the files. Also check that the link paths match where you uploaded them.
Is the image uploaded?
No. The icons are drawn in your browser. Nothing in this tool sends the image to a server.
